The adventures of Bob and Rachel Vence

Friday, March 31st, 2006 – What a week!

I had such a nice week!  On Sunday my Grammy and Grampy Carr flew down from the Seattle area to meet me.  It was sure nice to see them after all the nice stuff I’ve hard about them.  We then went to dinner at a fun Iraqi restaurant Ali-Baba’s.  We meet my Grandma and Grandpa Watson there, so it was wonderful to have us all together, even if I did sleep up until the end of dinner.  I got a little fussy after that, so we came home so Momma could feed me more.

Grammy and Grampy Carr helped Daddy finish up the nursery over the next few days.  There are still a few finishing touches to do, but I must say it looks pretty darn good!  Momma wants to get my quilts hung up on the walls before she takes pictures, so you’ll just have to take my word for it for another day or two.

We had an adventure to Home Depot to get the blinds for my bedroom window (did you know that Home Depot will custom cut the blinds for you at no extra cost?  Me neither, but then again, I didn’t even know what Home Depot was until Thursday :).  While we were there, Momma ran into a friend of hers she hasn’t seen in a few years.  She used to work with Amy at Newgen (Daddy calls it the Evil Place).  It was nice for Momma to talk with her for a little while and of course, she showed me off!

I had three other great adventures this week, my cloth diapers, my umbilical cord and my dummy.

1.      Diapers:  She was afraid that it might get caught and pulled, so Momma wanted to wait until my umbilical cord fell off before using my cloth diapers.  But at three weeks, the rough edges had softened even if the cord was still firmly attached so, we got to start using them.  I sure do like them, and so do Momma and Daddy, and since they have to change me, I think they get a little say in this one.  I’m now sporting my cool BumGenius! Diapers and I have to say, I’m so handsome in them!  Ok, everybody, “I’m too sexy for my diapy, too sexy for my diapy.”  (Yeah, you know the song!)  Check them out at http://www.cottonbabies.com/index.php?cPath=98. I’ve not had a single blow out yet in the BumGenius and yes, I have to admit I did have a few in the disposables Momma and Daddy were using at first.  I’ll keep you posted on how this diaper thing goes, but for now, I’m proud to say I’m no longer contributing to the local landfill.

2.      Umbilical Cord:  (Now this was FUN!)  So, you want to know how to REALLY scare your Mom??  Wait until your umbilical cord is just about ready to fall off.  Then, the next time your mom is changing you and cleaning your umbilical cord you wait until she is just pulling your cord back to get the QTip in there and then you let one rip!  Your Mom will jump about a foot, convinced she’s going to see you go flying around the room with air flapping from your belly button like a cartoon and your Grammy will laugh!   I can’t do that again though, cause just two days later on Wednesday night, Daddy found my umbilical cord in my sleep sack when he was changing me in the night time.  What a shame, that was funny enough to do again!

3.      My Dummy!  I hear that’s what they call them in England, anyway, I call it a pacifier.  I’m not 4 weeks old yet, but I’ve been doing really well at breastfeeding and since Daddy is going to try to give me a bottle starting next Tuesday, he and Momma thought a head start on the pacifier might not be so bad.  They got me a Soothie and it’s not so bad.  It’s not a good as when Momma feeds me of course, but I’m starting to get the hang of it for the little bit they let me use it.  They also got some bottles by the same company so hopefully this bottle thing won’t be so bad next week.

Boy, I’m pretty tired, so I’m going to sign off for now.  I’ll have Momma get photos of the nursery up soon so you can enjoy it too.
