What a day! So my father went in for
surgery this morning. He needed another hole in his head. Really! He’s had
serious issues with a blocked tear duct so they had to basically punch a hole
into his sinus cavity for the tears to drain. Neat huh?? Well my father is
also a diabetic. So I was up early this morning to call him and my Mom before
they went into surgery. Just before Bob and I left for our prenatal doctor’s
appointment, Mom called to say that Dad was in recovery already. So, off to
the doctor we go…
So at our appointment, we discovered that
I’ve gained 7 pounds this week, yep, a pound a day for the last 7 days!! And
while the baby has gained about a half pound this last week, the rest is
called fluid retention, Pit Adema to be exact. That’s what I’ve got going on
in my lower legs. Fortunately my blood pressure is just fine, so there’s no
risk of preeclampsia. I’m just getting ready to have this baby!! I’m sure my
ankles will be back shortly after the baby is here. Until then, it’s resting
on my left side a few times a day, drinking more water and walking. That
should do it!
So a quick call from Mom for a status check
for Dad has him still in recovery, his blood sugar close to 400, 8 units of
insulin in him, and 8 more on the way! Yea ha. They won’t release him with a
blood sugar above 300. So Bob and I head down to Otay Mesa to be with him and
Mom and as we get their, they’ve managed to get a total of 24 units of insulin
in him and his blood sugar is down to 298. So we got to wheel him out and put
him in the car. He was of course insisting that he’s just fine and doesn’t
need anything. Yeah, he also doesn't think he has diabetes on the weekends.
